Kenney,
a Clinton resident, decided to run for office because she has concerns
regarding several ongoing issues in her area such as health care and
education. Because of her involvement, she has been able to
identify many unique issues in her rural district.
A native of Urich, Kenney graduated from Sherwood High School in
Creighton. She earned her law degree from the University of
Missouri-Columbia and holds a Missouri insurance agent’s license.
She obtained an associate and bachelor’s degrees and a lifetime
teaching certificate from Central Missouri State University.
Kenney has practiced law for 25 years in Clinton and has extensive
experience with legal drafting, mediation and interpreting laws.
“I believe this experience will greatly benefit this position of
State Representative”.
“My roles as a business owner, school board member, city
councilperson, volunteer and parent have shown me that every person
deserves to be heard,” Kenney said. “I will work to ensure
that state agencies serve the individuals. I will represent all
citizens in my district and be a voice for the voiceless in Jefferson
City.”
Kenney has experience as an elected official. For the past five
years she has served on the Clinton City Council representing the
Fourth Ward and has been Mayor Pro Tem. She also spent nine years
on the Clinton School District Board of Education where she served as
Vice President and Treasurer. Education is a major priority to
her as this is what drives our state’s success. In 2005,
Kenney received local recognition as the Friend of Education honoree
and a Heart of Gold recipient. In 2007, Missouri Community
Betterment awarded her the Adult Leadership Designation for her work in
the community.
Her other accomplishments include having served as Treasurer of the
Central Missouri State University Foundation Board; chairing various
Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce committees including Missouri
Community Betterment and Academic Excellence. She is a member of
the local Mid-Day Optimists Club, P.E.O. and Arts Council. She is
also a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church where she taught
the High School Sunday school class for the past ten years.
For the past 35 years, she has been married to Doug Kenney, a local
physician, and they have four children, Jeffrey, Joshua, Jacob and
daughter, Jaime, who have attended public schools. Kristi grew up
on a farm in rural Henry County and is the daughter of Del and Jo Ann
Gretzinger and has a brother, Kurt, who farms.
“I am looking forward to meeting many new and seeing many old
friends during my campaign,” Kenney said. “The people who
live in our district want the state government to run efficiently and
effectively, and I encourage their input.”
The 120th District includes all of Henry County and areas in Pettis, Johnson, Bates and Cass Counties.
